Prof. Dr. Danijela Gregurec receives funding from the ERC starting grant for the BRAINMASTER project. Her Biointerfaces Lab will start the project in January 2024 and develop novel materials and technologies for neuromodulation.
The Research Center New Bioactive Compounds is established. Dr. Helene Loos, Prof. Dr. Danijela Gregurec and Prof. Dr. Andrea Büttner are part of this interdisciplinary center, which comprises internationally successful research teams from the fields of pharmaceutical sciences, food chemistry and pharmacology at FAU, as well as facilities of the University Hospital Erlangen.
Mariana Rodrigues da Silva receives the European PhD in Flavor Research Programme award by GIRACT.
Tiago Belé won 1st place for his presentation ‘Odor Characterization of Post-Consumer PP Bottles after Different Washing Processes’ at RecyDepo Tech 2022, which was handed over by Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management, Montanuniversität Leoben.
Prof. Dr. Danijela Gregurec receives funding from the Horizon-EIC-2022-PathfinderOpen-01 for the BRAINSTORM project. Her Biointerfaces Lab will lead the BRAINSTROM project, working with international partners on multimodal nanoinvasive neuromodulation technologies.
Dr. Helene Loos has received the Werner Baltes Award of the Young Scientist by the Food Chemical Society of Food Chemistry (LChG) – Division in the German Chemical Society (GDCh) in September 2022. Helene Loos receives the prize for her scientific work in the field of Aroma and Smell Research. Her research substantially advances our knowledge on perception, metabolization and chemocommunicative functionality of aroma compounds.
Dr. Helene Loos was awarded the Faculty of Sciences’ Women’s Prize in May 2021. With this funding she will further advance her line of research on human body odours, with her new PhD-candidate working on “Olfactory communication in humans: exploring principles of the perception of human chemosignals”.
The joint project ‘SHIELD’, which stands for using sensory detection processes to guarantee the quality of (organic) locally produced food, is due to start on 1 July 2021, and has received 1.2 million euros in funding from the Bavarian Research Foundation (for more details see FAU News).
acatech – “Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften” has a new member: Prof. Andrea Büttner was elected as one of 36 new members of the academy, being the first FAU member from Natural Sciences, she will advise politicians and society in techno-scientific and techno-political questions.
Prof. Andrea Büttner and Prof. Peter Bell, professor of digital humanities, are collaborating with colleagues from the UK and all over Europe in order to teach computers to see a smell. In the Odeuropa project, led by , the scientists aim at developing a ‘computer nose’ able to trace scents and olfactory experiences in digital texts over four centuries and seven languages.
