Our new paper is now published online in Angewandte Chemie International Edition (DOI:10.1002/anie.20180360)
Therein we demonstrate that the yield of the self-metalation reaction of tetraphenylporphyrins on Cu(111) is found to systematically decrease with increasing number of attached cyano groups (n=0, 1, 2, 4), which opens up a novel route to effectively tweak the reaction.

Our new paper is now published online in ACS Nano (DOI: 10.1021/acs.jpcc.7b08382)
Therein we demonstrate that Surface-Anchored Metal-Organic Frameworks (SURMOFs) are extraordinary well-suited as resists for high-resolution Focused Electron Beam Induced Processing (FEBIP) techniques. One important result is the fabrication of “nested-L” test structures with Fe(CO)5 on HKUST-1 with extremely narrow line widths of partially less than 8 nm, due to reduced electron proximity effects within the MOF-based resists.

Starting at 12:00 p.m with the public scientific presentation „On the dynamics of molecular processes: STM investigations of porphyrins on Cu(111)“. Please see the official notice for further information
13.01.2014:
Our new paper is now published online in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (Ditze et al., J. Phys. Chem C, (2014) DOI: 10.1021/ia411884b)
Therein we observe and induce conformational switching of individual molecules via scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at and close to room temperature. 2H-5,10,15,20-Tetrakis-(3,5-di-tert-butyl)-phenylporphyrin (2HTTBPP) adsorbed on Cu(111) forms a peculiar supramolecular ordered phase in which the molecules arrange in alternating rows, with two distinct appearances in STM which are assigned to concave and convex intramolecular conformations. Around room temperature, frequent bidirectional conformational switching of individual molecules from concave to convex and vice versa is observed. From the temperature dependence detailed insights into the energy barriers and entropic contributions of the switching processes are deduced. At 200 K, controlled STM tip-induced unidirectional switching is possible, yielding an information storage density of 4.9∙1013 bit/inch2. With this contribution we demonstrate that controlled switching of individual molecules at comparably high temperatures is possible and that entropic effects can be a decisive factor in potential molecular devices at these temperatures..

Our new paper is now published online in the Journal of Physical Chemistry C (Röckert et al., J. Phys. Chem C, (2013) DOI: 10.1021/ip412121b)
Herein we report on the coverage dependence of the peculiar self-metalation reaction of tetraphenylporphyrin (2HTPP) on Cu(111).
Interestingly a boost in the reaction rate to CuTPP is observed upon increasing the corerage to a peculiar supramolecular disorder-order transition.
