Utilization and reduction of Carbon Dioxide:
Chemical CO2 recycling is highly desired but still a challenge, and its development requires new concepts for catalyst development and reaction and process engineering. We investigate the recycling of CO2 via its catalytic chemical reduction to produce value-added products such as carbon monoxide, methanol, ethers, formamides, etc.
In this context, the reverse water gas shift reaction (rWGS) is of central importance. Green hydrogen made with renewable energy plays a key role in greening up the classical rWGS reaction and its products. Indeed, “green CO” generated by rWGS reactions may be used as feedstock to produce green, high-value chemicals such as alcohols, ethers, formic acid, and liquid fuels. The development of sustainable and efficient catalytic processes opens up opportunities for new reactions and industrial applications.
